A PASSENGER who verbally abused a guard on a train from Doncaster to York is being hunted by railway police.
British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place on Saturday, June 18, and left the driver feeling shaken.
PC Nick Storey said a group of six men, aged in their early 20s, boarded the 11.30pm train to York service at the station when they were approached by the train conductor. After asking the group for valid tickets, one of the men began to verbally abuse the conductor, swearing at him.
PC Storey said: “His tirade continued as he advanced towards the guard, as if to threaten him with physical violence.
“This was an aggressive verbal attack on a member of staff who was simply doing his job. No-one should have to go to work with the fear of being assaulted like this by passengers.”
Passengers on the service are asked to contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B11/NEA of 18/06/2011.
