SHE lived and worked in Brazil at a time few people even travelled abroad.
And now independent woman Evelyn Sheridan has marked the latest landmark in her adventurous life - her 100th birthday.
Mrs Sheridan still lives independently in her own home in Tickhill, and marked the milestone with a party for family and friends.
She still enjoys reading, watching quizzes on television, and doing crosswords.
Mrs Sheridan lived in Cheshire and Lancashire before she came to live in Tickhill 25 years ago to be near her son, Tony, following the death of her husband Terry.
The couple were both keen travellers and they spent almost a year in Brazil.
Impressively, it was during their travels that Evelyn learnt to speak both Spanish and Portuguese.
She went on to teach several subjects in a preparatory school for boys, bringing their common entrance Latin results from their worst to their best subject.
