DISRUPTION is in store for motorists on a busy Sheffield road from Monday as two of the city’s oldest water mains are replaced.
The project will see two Victorian-era pipes under the A61 Penistone Road replaced with one modern water main, meaning some side roads will be shut and two-way traffic lights put in place for seven weeks along the route.
The maintenance is happening from the junction of Wheel Lane and Saltbox Lane in Grenoside up to the junction of Norfolk Hill, affecting School Lane and Whitley Lane.
Around 400 metres of water piping will be replaced during the project.
Engineers are also set to return to the site for two weeks in April to clean the new pipes. Visit www.yorkshirewater.com/A61 for more information and full details of the road closures.
