TRAMS came to a standstill and roads were closed when a man threatened to jump from a city centre bridge.
The 48-year-old was threatening to leap from the bridge over Park Square, but was talked down and brought to safety after police were called.
Roads directly under the bridge were closed and traffic on the A61 from the train station heading towards the Park Square roundabout was reduced to one lane.
Trams were stopped at Cricket Inn Road or terminated at Sheffield railway station and paths over the roundabout were also shut while the man was talked down by negotiators from 8.30pm onwards on Thursday.
AN ELDERLY man had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a blaze broke out in a loft in Pot House Lane, Stocksbridge, Sheffield.
Crews used water jets and an aerial platform to put out the flames, which had spread to a bedroom, on Thursday afternoon.
A VAN fire on Newmarch Street in Tinsley, Sheffield, is believed to have been started deliberately.
