Track bike ban overturned

An experimental order banning 4x4s and trail bikes from a track near Edale has been overturned in the High Court.

The ban, imposed by the Peak District National Park Authority, ran for 15 of the 18 months intended but a challenge was mounted by the Trail Riders’ Fellowship.

Chapel Gate includes a Special Area of Conservation, a Special Protection Area and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

But the High Court ruled that the precise wording used in the reasons for the order did not reflect the experiment.
