The family of Chris Henchliffe are holding vigil at his bedside as he continues to battle for his life following an assault.
People right across Chesterfield are also hoping and praying the young dad quickly recovers.
Mr Henchliffe was 'severely attacked' on Corporation Street in Chesterfield in the early hours of Sunday morning.
His sister Zoey Henchliffe said: "He's in intensive care at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, in a coma and fighting for his life.
"He has two bleeds and a fracture to the brain."
Ms Henchliffe and her mum are staying at the hospital.
Hundreds of people have taken to social media to wish Mr Henchliffe a speedy recovery - and express their shock at the incident.
Mr Henchcliffe is understood to be a member of the infantry of the British Army.
