Town centre bins ‘no longer rubbish’

Have your say

SMART new silver litter bins have been installed in Barnsley’s main precinct and surrounding streets.

Barnsley Council has spent £5,000 on the project - after existing bins had become corroded, having been in service for more than 20 years.

Those which could be salvaged have been repaired and relocated to areas where bins are not currently provided.

Some new bins will also be placed in areas where there are none at present.

The decision to replace and provide more bins in the town centre follows a recent council inspection.

A number of areas were highlighted by businesses and local people as having little or no litter bins in the area. These will now have either refurbished or new bins provided.

The funding has come from the council’s Backing Barnsley budget, which provides money for maintaining the town centre, making it more attractive to visitors and residents.
