Tory Hague's mother dies, 80

STELLA Hague, the mother of Conservative MP and former Tory leader William, has died aged 80 at her Rotherham home.

Mrs Hague, who lived in Church Street, Greasbrough, with her husband and William's father Nigel, died "suddenly but peacefully" her daughter Sally Foster said today.

Mrs Foster said William, who was Party leader from 1997 to 2001, had been up to visit his father twice since his mother's death on November 26.

She said: "She died suddenly and peacefully at home, which is where you would want to be.

"It's very sad. You just have to get along with it really."

Stella lived all her life in South Yorkshire. Born in Laughton en Le Morthern, she moved to Wickersley and later to Wentworth.

Stella and Nigel had been married for 59 years and had four children and five grandchildren.

While Nigel made his fortune as the director of a soft drinks company, Stella raised the family and used her spare time doing charity work.
