A SHEFFIELD businessman raised £1,000 for charity by collecting donations from people in return for having a photograph with the Olympic Torch.
Wayne Barratt, manager of Cash Converters on Glossop Road, took the torch to the Jessica Ennis postbox in Barker’s Pool on Saturday after charity worker John Burkhill loaned him the one he carried through the city during the Olympic torch relay.
The money Wayne raised is to be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support - the same charity John raises money for when he walks around the city day after day with his collection buckets.
He will be out again on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10am until 5pm.
Wayne said: “The atmosphere was absolutely brilliant on Saturday and there were queues right past the fountains in Barkers Pool.”
