Hospital workers, friends and relatives took part in a sponsored bike ride to raise cash to help pay for a new helipad at the Northern Genera Hospital in Sheffield.

Led by Dr Stuart Reid, the hospital’s Emergency Department Consultant and Major Trauma Lead, the team rode between 50 and 200 miles through South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Stafford.

The new helipad is to be located next to the Accident and Emergency Department to speed up the time it takes to get patients into hospital once air ambulances land.

Dr Reid said: “I saw all the riders really pushing themselves to achieve their goal.”
