JUDGES will be getting down to brass tacks this weekend on the site of the former Kiveton Colliery.

Kiveton Community Wood - a former pit site being nurtured by the Forestry Commission with 40,000 trees - hosts the third Kiveton Brass Band Festival on Sunday.

Vying for honours this time will be a dozen highly tuned ensembles, including Thurcroft Welfare and Dronfield.

The event is free and bands strike up from 11am.

Car parking costs £3.
