PASSENGERS needing to use toilets at Sheffield and Barnsley Interchanges will have to pay 20p per visit.

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, which runs the two bus stations, has decided to install turnstiles and charge to ‘maintain high standards of service’.

Gilly Greensitt, SYPTE external relations manager, said: “It’s with reluctance we are introducing the charge, but, given pressures on funding, we feel we can’t maintain a high standard of service without charging to use the toilets. We introduced turnstiles at Rotherham Interchange last year. These have operated with few complaints from customers.”

The new turnstiles will be installed and operational in Sheffield on Friday, April 27, and in Barnsley on Wednesday, May 2.
