Details of a free parking scheme aimed at enticing shoppers to Sheffield city centre are due to be announced ‘imminently’ – as opposition councillors question why it has taken so long.
The council traditionally runs some form of free parking in the countdown to Christmas and there will be an incentive this year.
But Sheffield Lib Dem leader Colin Ross said traders need to know now, as the Christmas lights switch on is this Sunday, and shoppers would go elsewhere.
He said: “Christmas adverts are on television and many people have started shopping. It appears only Labour councillors haven’t noticed the holiday season.”
Coun Leigh Bramall said the details of the scheme would be announced ‘imminently’. Officers have been working on the scheme.
