A Sheffield library has a new home.
Tinsley Library will operate from the Tinsley Forum in Bawtry Road from now on. The library needed a new location because the lease on its previous home, just down the road, ran out last month and Sheffield Council decided not to renew it.
The library will now be managed and run by volunteers instead of the council. This has been the case for 15 other libraries since the council cut its funding to them in September 2014.
Graham Whitfield from the Tinsley Forum said: “We’re really pleased to be able to offer a new base for Tinsley library as this will give local people access to a volunteer led library service within the community at this time.”
The council is now working with volunteers and the Tinsley Forum before plans are firmed up and a take-over date is confirmed.
Volunteer Zahira Naz said: “It’s great to see the library will be reopening after all the work the volunteers in Tinsley have put into this idea.”
A temporary book drop-off and collection point is available for library users at Tinsley Forum. Visits by the council’s Little Library service for children are also taking place.
Anyone interested in helping to run Tinsley’s future library service should contact Darrell Porter, the council’s library volunteer co-ordinator, on 0114 273 4254.
