A Sheffield scheme that recognises local legends has now opened for nominations to create the 20th star on the city’s ‘walk of fame.’

Sheffield Legends - including actor Sean Bean, Olympic heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill and band Def Leppard - have a special plaque set into the pavement outside Sheffield Town Hall.

Residents are now urged to nominate people with a strong Sheffield connection and who have achieved national, preferably international, recognition for the next honour.

They will be considered by a selection board.

Lord Mayor of Sheffield Coun Talib Hussain said: “ The aim is to keep the Legends topical, so we are looking for people who the public can relate to today.”

Sheffield Council is also urging people to nominate local unsung heroes for a separate, new civic awards.

Coun Hussain, who will thank local heroes, said: “These are very special honours.

To nominate someone for either honour, visit www.sheffield.gov.uk/legends by Friday July 10.
