A GOOD Samaritan who helped save the life of a suicidal pensioner has been commended by South Yorkshire Police Authority.

Tim Parkes, of Firbeck, Rotherham, was driving along Thornberry Hill Lane in June when he saw an elderly man acting in a ‘strange and confused manner’.

The 80-year-old Rotherham man was standing by his car at the side of the road handling what appeared to be a pipe, which he then attached it to the exhaust of his car and started up the engine.

Mr Parkes pulled the OAP from his car, called the emergency services and sat with him until help arrived.

Authority chairman Charles Perryman said: “Mr Parkes’s quick thinking helped avoid tragic consequences and he deserves to be commended.”
