Tightening up against thefts

Motorists in South Yorkshire are being urged to protect their car’s identity and help prevent crimes such as petrol station drive-offs and speeding ticket evasion after a local business launched a free scheme.

Polar Ford, Wakefield Road, Barnsley, has teamed up with police to alert motorists of the increase in number plate thefts and is offering free fitting of anti-tamper number plate screws later this month.

Motorists will be able to have the anti-tamper proof screws fitted to their vehicles free of charge by calling in at the garage on Tuesday, July 24.

PC Chris Squires, crime reduction officer, said: “We would recommend that members of the public take advantage of the offer.”
