THE excitement surrounding a fearless showman’s visit to 19th century Sheffield will be re-lived at a talk.
Author JP Bean will tell the story of tight-rope walker Blondin’s appearance in the Botanical Gardens in 1861, watched by a crowd of 30,000.
It was the first of his three visits to the city and many who attended expected the stilt-walker to fall to his death.
The talk will take place at The Greystones pub, Greystones Road, Sheffield, on Monday, April 22. Tickets are on sale at the bar now, priced £5. Call 0114 266 5599 for more information.
