VISITORS to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park put on tiger masks to raise the profile of an endangered species.

A total of 350 people put on the masks to mark International Tiger Day – and draw attention to the 350 surviving Amur Tigers remaining in the world.

The park in Branton, is home to two of those tigers and it is hoped that Vladimir and Sayan will mate and produce another tiger. It has signed up to the European Tiger Breeding Programme which aims to stop extinction of the endangered species.

A spokesman said the day was set aside by all who cared about the biggest of the cats to help tigers globally and celebrate conservation efforts at the park.

Visitors were offered face painting, a chance to win a VIP Tour on a children’s quiz trail.
