Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Thursday, March 9, how Isaac John Bown, 18, of Langer Lane, Chesterfield, assaulted Connor Johnson after they had both turned up in different vehicles at Holmebrook Valley Park, Chesterfield.

Prosecuting solicitor Lynn Bickley said they had been friends but had not spoken due to an argument in the last two years.

She added: “Mr Johnson was speaking to the defendant’s ex-partner over Snapchat messaging and he stated during the conversation that the defendant had been in trouble with the police.”

Ms Bickley added that the following day a further message was exchanged and an arrangement was made for a meeting with friends at Holmebrook Valley Park, on Water Meadow Lane, Chesterfield.

The court heard how Mr Johnson went to the park with a friend in a car and the defendant had turned up at the park’s car park with another friend in a van.

Bown went over to the complainant and asked him why he had been talking about him, according to Ms Bickley, and the complainant heard someone tell the defendant to drag him out and hit him while a friend of the defendant was recording the incident on a mobile phone.

Ms Bickley said the defendant lunged at the complainant and grabbed him around the neck area of his t-shirt and his shirt ripped and the defendant punched him several times.

Bown pleaded guilty to the assault which happened on June 22, last year.

Defence solicitor Ben Strelley said Bown accepted he was violent and had caused an injury but explained there had been bad blood and there had been an argument and things got out of hand.

Magistrates sentenced Bown to a 12 month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work and he was also ordered to pay £200 costs, £100 compensation and an £85 victim surcharge.
