Three-dom of the borough for service to the community
TWO politicians and an Olympic gold medallist have been granted Rotherham's highest accolade - the Freedom of the Borough.
Former Rotherham MP Stan Crowther, former Rotherham Council Conservative Group leader Coun Michael Clarke and Olympic sailor Paul Goodison were made Honorary Freemen of the Borough at a ceremony in the Bailey Suite.
Coun Clarke and Mr Crowther were presented with an illuminated address bearing the coat of arms commemorating their enrolment in recognition of their long and eminent service to the borough.
Paul Goodison's father Roy picked up the honour on behalf of his son who was made a freeman in recognition of his services to sport and to the borough.
Mayor of Rotherham Coun Shaukat Ali said: "These three individuals all thoroughly deserve this great honour.
"Both Michael Clarke and Stan Crowther have given long and eminent service to Rotherham and Paul Goodison has also put Rotherham on the map by excelling in his chosen sport. They are all worthy freemen who now join a very select band of people."
The three new freemen will join only seven other individuals and the ship's company of HMS Rotherham, who have been conferred with the honour.
