Three members of the same family have appeared in court charged in connection with a road smash which left a pedestrian fighting for his life.
Scott McMannis, aged 20, of Townend, Barnsley, is accused of aggravated vehicle taking, driving without insurance, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, and perverting the course of justice.
It follows a road crash on Racecommon Road, Barnsley, which happened last December.
McMannis was arrested after a 50-year-old Barnsley man, who is now aged 51, was struck by a vehicle which failed to stop at 7.20pm on December 12.
The collision broke nearly every bone in the man’s body and he spent four months in hospital.
He has since been discharged but is still receiving treatment.
Stacey McMannis, 25, and Gary John McMannis, 48, both of Townend, Barnsley, are each charged with perverting the course of justice.
All three appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The hearing was adjourned and all three defendants were granted conditional bail.
The case has been transferred to Sheffield Crown Court.
The date for the next hearing is Friday, August 16.
No further action is to be taken by police in respect of others who were arrested during the course of the investigation.
