THREE people are believed to have fled after a car ploughed into a bus shelter before slamming into two parked cars on a South Yorkshire residential street.
A VW Golf ‘wiped out’ the steel framed structure on Mount Vernon Road, Barnsley, shattering every pane of glass, before hitting a parked Hyundai head on and then rolling into a Kia Ceed.
The incident was reported by shocked residents who heard a series of loud bangs at 9.30pm on Saturday and saw three people running away.
A fire service spokesman said it was lucky no-one was seriously hurt.
He added: “It looks as if the Golf was travelling at speed and the bus shelter bore the brunt of the impact, it was totally wiped out, there was glass everywhere.
“The engine was smoking before we made it safe. A lot of residents heard the bangs and came out of their houses. They said they saw three people running off.”
Police organised the recovery of the vehicle.
