CHEERLEADERS will swap their pom poms for running shoes when they take to the streets of Sheffield to raise money for charity.

The Sheffield Sabrecats Stunt Squad, from the University of Sheffield, have entered the SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon to raise cash for Breast Cancer Care.

About half of the 30-strong team will be taking part in the event at Don Valley Stadium on May 12.

Sabrecats member Rachel O’Shea, aged 20, who is studying criminology at the University of Sheffield, said: “We decided to take part in the Sheffield Half Marathon this year as we thought it would be a great challenge for us to do as a team.

“We’re all quite fit anyway as we do a lot of training for the squad but running is a different matter. It’s going quite well so far though, so hopefully we’ll all be able to make it round in one piece. A few of the team have done it before but it’s my first time.”
