ALMOST 3,000 people a day use Sheffield’s railway station bridge without using the train, a survey has found.
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive carried out a count of commuters using the shortcut between 7am and 7pm.
The figure represents eight per cent of all those who cross the bridge.
Residents Against Station Closure is campaigning against plans to put barriers on the bridge preventing non-passengers from using it to cut fare dodging on trains.
It wants the bridge made a right of way. RASC said the new figures supported the organisation’s.
RASC has launched a new petition, urging Transport Secretary, Justine Greening, to shelve the proposals.
