Thousands of tenants have been sent letters about asbestos in their homes after surveys were carried out in council properties across Sheffield.
Workers have checked 38,000 of the city’s 42,000 council houses for asbestos – and the surveying is continuing at remaining properties. People in homes where asbestos has been found are being sent information about how to manage DIY work to ensure the asbestos stays safe.
Sheffield Council said residents are not at risk. Tenants are being made aware of the type of materials that could contain asbestos, and have also been sent a leaflet which answers frequently-asked questions.
Residents with queries should call 0114 293 0000.
