MORE than 14,000 homes in Sheffield have received free insulation under a council scheme.
Since April 2009, householders have been eligible for free loft and wall cavity insulation - whether they are council or private tenants, or owner-occupiers.
The scheme is being rolled out on an area by area basis but people aged 70 or over - or those on qualifying benefits - are also eligible, wherever they live in the city.
So far, insulation has been installed at properties in Arbourthorne, Beauchief and Greenhill, Darnall, East Ecclesfield, Gleadless Valley, Hillsborough, Stocksbridge and Walkley.
Since the scheme started, 23,000 households have signed up across Sheffield.
More than 4,000 cavity walls and more than 10,000 lofts have received insulation.
Lib Dem Gleadless Valley councillor, Denise Reaney, said: “The feedback from local people now enjoying warmer homes and lower bills has been fantastic.
“Many people in our community have benefited, but it’s not too late for more to sign up.”
The scheme is now being offered in Shiregreen and Brightside Ward. However, residents in previous areas who have not yet contacted the council can still benefit form the free scheme.
