A GARDEN centre has donated a Christmas tree to a South Yorkshire pensioner after hers was stolen.
Kathleen Ramage’s 7ft tree was cut down in the early hours of Monday, December 19.
The 84-year-old, of Chapel Lane, Penistone, had the tree planted in her garden as a sapling 11 years ago.
Penistone FM heard about the theft and contacted Horsfields Nursery, in Silkstone, Barnsley, which donated a replacement.
Councillor Paul Hand, Penistone Mayor, has issued a warning to residents to be on their guard against Christmas tree thieves after the theft was discussed at a recent meeting of Penistone Town Council.
He said: “It appears they will do anything if they steal a tree from an elderly resident.”
