A distraught Doncaster family are appealing for information after the theft of lights from a child’s grave at Rose Hill Cemetery .
Solar-powered lights have been taken from the grave of a 12-year-old boy at Rose Hill Cemetery off Ascot Avenue, Cantley, some time before 8pm last Sunday, when the theft was discovered.
This was the third report of thefts from the same grave in the space of just three weeks.
Pc Steve Roberts said: “While we take all thefts extremely seriously, stealing from a child’s grave is a particularly despicable and callous act.
“I would ask anyone who has any information on these thefts to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
“I would urge these people to put themselves in the position of this bereaved family, who are now having to deal with additional trauma on top of the terrible pain of losing a child.
“The lights are worth only a few pounds to a thief, but had tremendous sentimental value.”
The LED lights that were stolen have the name ‘Liam’ written along the shaft, and underneath a removable panel. Four of the lights are champagne flute-shaped, and one is star-shaped.
