Find out more about the bees of Crystal Peaks with a special talk at the shopping mall on June 10.
Up on the roof of the shopping centre – far away from the thousands who visit the complex ever day – is the home to more than 100,000 honey bees.
Their hives are part of the Crystal Peaks b:responsible campaign, aimed at promoting the centre’s care for the environment, and they are looked after by keen beekeepers, husband and wife Zlatko and Karen Goodwin-Izmirov.
Karen will be presenting a talk on the successful campaign in a session that will also include a visit to the hives, and a tour of the nearby Crystal Peaks wildflower meadow, which provides a natural habitat for the bees and other insects.
Centre manager Lee Greenwood said: “We want to ensure Crystal Peaks and the surrounding neighbourhood are safe and progressive places to live, work and shop.
“Our bee hives are central to our philosophy of giving something back to the world around us.”
The event will begin at 10am. Meet on the Crystal Peaks lower mall near Sainsbury’s entrance. To find out more call 0114 251 0457 or visit www.crystalpeakscentre.com
