SHEFFIELD’S hottest boxing prospect has added extra punch to The Star’s Justice for Matt campaign.

Awad Barry - aka Kid Galahad - has thrown his weight behind the campaign was launched by The Star following the death of Sheffield teenager Matthew Cryer in Zante.

Killamarsh student Matthew died at the foot of a stairwell outside the Cocktails and Dreams nightclub in Laganas on the Greek holiday island in July 2008.

Police claimed the 17-year-old was so drunk he fell and choked on his own vomit.

But an inquest ruled Sheffield Wednesday fan Matt, who was brought up in Frecheville, was unlawfully killed after hearing he had 20 separate injuries and bruising.

Witnesses told the 2009 Chesterfield inquest he had been battered and pushed downstairs by club bouncers.

Matthew’s parents have worked tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice - and now the Kid is very much in their corner.

He said: “I keep reading of the campaign in The Star and believe it is time this family were given the justice they seek.

“Matthew would have been 21 now, and that’s the same age as myself.

“For his family to be kept waiting by the Greek legal system almost for almost four years is a disgrace. Hopefully they will get justice soon.”

Matthew’s father David Cryer thanked the boxer and wished him well for tomorrow’s fight - backed by The Star - against Jason Booth for the WBC Super Bantamweight International title at the Magna Centre in Templeborough, Rotherham.

He said: “We very much appreciate the support.

“To have a future world champion in our corner means a lot to us all. The Kid is pretty special.”
