The long-term unemployed

Have your say

DOES Michael Parker (Apr 22) realise that long-term unemployed are not on the official unemployment count? After six months receiving contribution-based JSA, one automatically comes off the count then on to means-tested income-based JSA.

If one has a partner classed as working full-time, then no benefit is received. Contribution-based JSA is the old dole, if one has paid a full NI stamp for more than 13 weeks.

Income-based JSA is the old social security before it changed under the last Tory Government. The only way Government can make it seem unemployment is falling is by forcing income-based JSA claimants on to schemes with threats of benefits stopped if refused.
