My heart goes out to Julie Davies, the Sheffield woman who had to watch helplessly as the man she loved looked her in the eye while a towering wave swept him away from her on a Cyprus beach.
Julie lost “the love of her life”. She had met Manor Park 50-year-old Keith West at primary school and the reason they were in Cyprus was a joyous one; they were hunting for a venue for their wedding. She tried the kiss of life and her terror in those few moments, her devastation now, is unimaginable.
But Keith died a hero. He had been trying to rescue an elderly man from drowning when he too got into difficulty and that must comfort all who loved him. Some rare people are diamonds; the valiant, caring sort who, in an emergency, put others first. Keith was one of them.
