It takes guts to pose for a picture like this. The pun is intended and I know fabulous Fiona Hennessey won’t mind.
It’s precisely why she got her kit off. The post-baby belly wobble is meant to be on show. The Sheffielder had her second child nine months ago and hasn’t given into the ridiculously unrealistic trend of springing back to pre-pregnancy shape, led by C-list celebrities in magazines at the supermarket check-out.
The Handsworth 32-year-old doesn’t yearn to look like she did before motherhood. “My babies did this to me and I wouldn’t change it for the world,” she says of her bigger, softer stomach.
Fearless Fi got the idea from a body-con website bucking the trend. 4thtrimesterbodies.com encourages women to celebrate the way their bodies look after childbirth. She joined the post-maternity fraternity and posted tasteful her nuddy pictures online.
Now, Fiona does have more reason to be so courageous; the publicity helps promote her business, a private antenatal clinic. Still, good on anyone encouraging others to be comfortable in their own, somewhat looser skin and realise being a good mother is more important than being a svelte and good-looking one. All we need now is for men to think like the bloke in Shirley Valentine and see stretchmarks as the marks of life, and we’re roly-polying in clover.
