The back of the greasy spoon

Another piece of the old grimy Sheffield has been nibbled away.

A little piece of history has vanished with the demolition of this quirky metal trades building in Arundel Street. It was a fine example of the great British greasy spoon. It even had some stained glass.

It complemented the superbly restored Butcher Works and now it’s gone, almost by stealth.

Well they appear to be saving the bricks. Councillor Penny Baker is to be congratulated for encouraging local people and groups to put forward buildings for listing ‘protection’ but what’s the point if we can’t save them when it comes to the crunch? Meanwhile back at Dial House.
