On behalf of leading vet charity, PDSA, which has a pet hospital and a clinic in Sheffield I would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who are players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
As we welcome in 2016, I wanted to highlight how your support has helped us achieve so much in the past year.
We’ve received over £550,000 in funding in 2015, which has enabled us to appoint PDSA veterinary care assistant Joanne Smith as a Pet Wellbeing Champion at our Sheffield Pet Hospital in Newhall Road.
She is one of 50 champions across the country – one at every single PDSA Pet Hospital – and they are making a huge difference to the lives of vulnerable pets.
These Champions are helping to educate pet owners about the importance of preventive veterinary care, such as neutering, microchipping, parasite treatments and regular vaccinations.
Prevention is always better than cure and I’m delighted to report that we’ve seen a significant rise in the number of pets who are now receiving these types of treatments.
Our work is making a huge difference but there is still so much to do.
Thousands of the pets we see every day suffer from conditions we could easily prevent by vaccinating, neutering or treating for parasites.
We need owners to understand the dangers of leaving their beloved pets exposed to these problems, then we can ensure their animals are up-to-date with all their vaccinations and other preventive treatments.
Finally, I’d like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I look forward to us making an even bigger impact in 2016.
