many thanks to all organisations and individuals who helped make this year’s Sheffield Environment Weeks a resounding success.
Many thanks to all organisations and individuals who helped make this year’s Sheffield Environment Weeks a resounding success.
Over 250 events attracted a tremendous range of people to participate in walks, clean ups, open days, exhibitions and talks to satisfy all interests over the six week period. This year probably saw the widest range of activities on offer since the event started 27 years ago. Thanks also to the group who co-ordinated events and all the sponsors, some of whom have supported the events since the start!
I hope we can continue working with many of the enthusiastic groups to ensure Sheffield is a sustainable city for our future generations.
Coun Leigh Bramall, Cabinet member for Environment
Wonderful sight in the woods
LIFE is full of surprises. This was never more evident than when I visited Chapeltown Park Woods.
How magnificent it was to be greeted by uninterrupted birdsong within a leafy canopy, undulating landscape form the old railway embankment and the old spoil heap from the now defunct Smithy Wood coking plant.
A magical environment created from one which once was a blot on the landscape and where the smell of coal gas constantly filled the air!
Not only had the silver birch saplings taken hold on the old spoil heap but also dwarf rhododendrons.
Wonderful flowers graced a landscape that was once grey, barren and bare. A truly wonderful sight.
