‘Text-a-taxi’ cab service

A CAB firm in Sheffield has launched a new service for people with visual or hearing impairments.

Mercury Taxis is now offering a ‘text-a-taxi’ service and is distributing special large-print business cards, postcards and posters.

Bosses at the firm rolled out the changes after consulting Sheffield Council’s sensory impairment team.

Peter Holmes, Mercury’s marketing manager, said: “We are really pleased to have worked with the council on this project and launch the new services which will help thousands of people in Sheffield.

“We’ve given all of our drivers advice on dealing with bookings through this service - we hope it makes ordering and travelling in one of our taxis that little bit easier for people with eyesight problems or hearing difficulties.”
