Terminally ill home care scheme extended
A CHARITY giving people with incurable illnesses support to stay in their own homes has been extended to help thousands more patients in Sheffield.
Helen's Trust was set up in 2001 in memory of Helen Louise Lyon, a former teacher at Sheffield College, who died from breast cancer aged 44.
It was Helen's wish to die at home with her family and friends around her.
Helen's Trust operates in Hope Valley in the Peak District and aims to give patients a choice to make life more comfortable, with funding for additional nursing care, sitters, household help, equipment or complimentary therapy.
But over the past 12 months Helen's Trust has been helping patients of the Shiregreen Medical Centre and Bluebell Surgery, and is now available to potentially help an extra 30,000 patients at the Wincobank, Dunninc Road and Firth Park surgeries.
The patron of the charity - the Duchess of Devonshire - attended the launch of the extended service.
