RESIDENTS are objecting to plans for an extra hour’s play at a Sheffield tennis club - claiming they will be disturbed by extra ‘shouting and bad language’ and that the floodlights will disrupt special needs children’s sleep.

Sheffield Council’s city centre, south and east planning board will consider the application by Brentwood Lawn Tennis Club, Brincliffe, to use its floodlights until 10pm instead of 9pm at a meeting on Monday.

Four surrounding residents have objected claiming ‘detriment’ to local amenity.

They also claimed it would ‘affect wildlife’ and that players come into gardens without permission to retrieve balls. Planning officers recommend approval because the lights are on only one court and noise is ‘minimal’.
