A TEENAGE thug has been jailed for six years for raping a woman in his flat after holding her hostage and threatening to kill her in a series of menacing text messages sent before the attack.

Matthew Hide, aged 19, of Skelton Lane, Woodhouse, ordered the woman into the bedroom when some friends came round, and said he would send her a text message when she could come out.

But when his pals left, Hide bombarded his terrified victim with threatening text messages telling her he ‘owned’ her and would kill her if she did not obey his demands.

He then threatened her with a knife and a pair of scissors, which he placed beside his bed when he raped her.

Rachael Harrison, prosecuting, said: “She was not allowed to speak, she needed to ask permission before she could do anything.

“The defendant was telling her if she did not do as she was told he was going to kill her.

“When she stared to cry he said if she did not stop he would knock her out.”

His victim told police she now takes anti-depressants and is unable to sleep.

In a victim impact statement read out to the court, she said: “Since what happened to me I have thought about harming myself.

“I am scared to go into town and when I try to sleep all I can see is him on top of me.”

Ian Goldsack, defending, said Hide admitted rape, assault, false imprisonment and threats to kill, but denied using any violence against his victim.

He also admitted assaulting another woman in a previous incident.

Mr Goldsack said Hide had been addicted to cannabis at the time and, while on remand, had reflected on his behaviour and feels remorse and regret.

Jailing him, Judge Graham Hyland QC said: “These offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be passed.

“Against her will you detained your victim, you subjected her to vile, aggressive and threatening text messages. You raped her - that must have been a terrifying ordeal for her.”

Hide was sent to a Young Offenders’ Institute for a total of six years and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

He was also made the subject of a restraining order and Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
