Teamwork takes Marine to Apex Challenge title

A TEAM of Explorer Scouts from Sheffield battled the elements to be crowned winners in an activity challenge weekend – beating off competition from 70 teams from around the country.

Team Marine – made up of Sean Duncan, Jim Arundale, Jez Nicholls and Sam Lindop, from the eXu Explorer Scout Unit, based in Ecclesall – won the National Apex Challenge.

The 16-year-olds had to battle winds of up to 60mph during the weekend of activities on Ilkley Moor, West Yorkshire.

Tasks included an overnight digital orienteering exercise, climbing, assault courses and problem-solving missions.

Sam said they had a brilliant time, with a nailbiting finish.

He said: "We could see it was really close going into Sunday – but we worked together as a team and got each other through to win."
