An afternoon tea party for elderly and socially isolated people is to be held in Barnsley.

Wayne Padgett, of bakery Haywood and Padgett, will be supplying scones for the Superjam Afternoon Tea Party, while Fraser Doherty, also known as ‘The Jam Boy’, is sponsoring the event.

As well as a host of sweet treats, the event will include entertainment from singer Julia Pearson, and there will also be a showing of a Dave Cherry film from the 1950s.

Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber have sponsored five places at the event, which is organised by Barnsley Rotary Clubs.

Other new sponsors include Sharon Haggerty, of Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club, CK Beckett and Sons, and Home Instead Senior Care Sheffield and Barnsley.

The free tea party will be held from 2pm until 4pm next Tuesday, December 2 at the Holiday Inn Barnsley, Dodworth.

Capacity is strictly limited to 50 people, so people are urged to book a place by contacting Kathy Markwick on 0114 2830827 or at kathymarkwick@googlemail.com
