A Sheffield taxi boss has been honoured by police.
Dermot Griffiths, Mercury Taxis general manager, has been commended by South Yorkshire Police.
The award recognises his support in producing the Sheffield taxi drivers’ community safety handbook, as well as his commitment to Operation Karri to tackle the market for stolen goods.
Mr Griffiths said: “From burglary to domestic violence and assault, our drivers can often play a vital role in stopping or reporting crime and we are happy to help the police to make Sheffield a safer place for everyone.”
Acting Sergeant Simon Kirkham, who co-leads Operation Karri, said: “Taxi drivers can possess valuable information and we want to encourage them to pass on anything they consider suspicious to us by calling 101.”
