ANTI-cuts protesters in Sheffield have called for a clampdown on tax avoidance and warn of more protests about the issue.
After Britain’s top accountancy firms were questioned in the House of Commons about the practice, a UK Uncut Sheffield spokesman said: “While Sheffield Council are making cuts that will divide the city and damage our children’s futures, companies avoid up to £25 billion worth of tax each year in the UK.
“The cuts aren’t necessary – we won’t stand for the cuts to our services and benefits while the Government pumps money into the pockets of accountants and big businesses.
“Nobody wants to take responsibility for the system that puts profits ahead of services for people in need. And this year, more people will take action against the situation.”
