WE can do it! Tough youngsters put their fitness to the test in a mini triathlon, powering through to the end of the challenge.

Hundreds ran, swam and cycled more than 1,400m in The Tata Kids of Steel event at Maltby Leisure Centre before proudly showing off their medals.

They were introduced to the sport as part of the biggest youth triathlon series in the country. It was the second time it has taken place in South Yorkshire.

A spokesman for Tata Steel said: “The event was really successful and it’s always great to see young people taking part in physical activity as well as enjoying themselves.

“It isn’t a race – there were no official winners.

“Everyone does it in their own time and they are all winners. Each youngster gets a medal at the end.”

The free mini triathlon aimed to open youngsters’ eyes to a new sport and the benefits of living a healthier lifestyle in the Olympic year.

Sheffield-based sports recovery drink manufacturer nouriSH me now also gave away free drinks to the children as they headed towards the finish line.
