Tanning salon safety checks
INSPECTIONS of tanning salons to ensure sunbed safety standards are met are to be carried out by Sheffield Council
The council's health officers will assess controls employed by salons to limit personal exposure and measures taken to provide suitable information to clients.
Ian Ashmore, head of environmental regulation at Sheffield Council, said: "It is important that tanning salon operators act responsibly and have adequate measures in place to protect the public from the risks when using tanning equipment."
The council has issued guidelines on the usage of tanning equipment advising people at an increased risk of skin cancer to avoid them.
The ultraviolet rays of sunbeds are the main cause of skin cancer in UK and also cause cataracts, premature ageing of skin, bumpy rashes and conjunctivitis.
