Chesterfield Council has agreed to carry out further consultation on proposals to extend its Town Centre Conservation Area along Saltergate and Ashgate Road.
The authority’s ruling cabinet members made the decision after concerns were raised by opposition councillors that there had been insufficient public consultation.
Deputy leader Coun Terry Gilby said: “We are satisfied that there is now time for a fuller consultation and want to give the local community an extended opportunity to tell us what they think about the area before we make a final decision on whether or not to extend the Town Centre Conservation Area. “
Conservation area status aims to protect historic buildings.
A six-week public consultation starts next week.
