A SOUTH Yorkshire farm attraction has seen its takings rise by more than 30 per cent this year following a series of improvements.

Cannon Hall Farm, at Cawthorne, Barnsley, made more than £945,000 between January and November, compared with £723,000 over the same period last year.

Since Easter, young visitors have been able to use a new outdoor play area, including a climbing forest and tube maze.

Children have also had the opportunity to see and hold small animals in a petting enclosure.

In Spring the second phase of the attraction’s £3 million expansion will begin, featuring an indoor play zone and a major redesign of the farm itself.

The farm attracted 249,541 visitors this year, up from 220,739 last year.

Managing director Robert Nicholson said he was ‘thrilled’ by the success.

The transformation is being carried out with the guidance of business support organisation Enterprising Barnsley.

Cannon Hall Farm scooped the Best Tourism Experience prize in Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards in October.
