volunteers are hoping the weather clears up for a series of cruises they are organising along the Chesterfield Canal.
Chesterfield Canal Trust’s trip boat, the John Varley, will be making full-day return cruises on Saturdays July 14, August 11 and September 8 and Wednesday, July 18,.
Each trip will depart at 10am and is due to return at about 4pm.
Starting at Tapton Lock Visitor Centre, the boat will go through the floodgate and into the River Rother.
It will turn in the river and go the full distance down the canal to the new Staveley Town Basin where it will do a couple of laps before returning.
Altogether, it will go through 10 locks and cover 10 miles.
There will be stops for refreshments at Nona’s Coffee Shop, at the Staveley Basin.
Tickets cost £20 or £15 for under 16s or over 60s and must be booked in advance.
